Task Order
A task order is an individual order for services issued against an existing indefinite delivery contract such as an IDIQ or GSA Schedule. Each task order defines a specific scope of work, period of performance, deliverables, and funding for a particular requirement.
Task orders are competed among holders of the parent contract. The competition may use streamlined procedures compared to a full and open competition, making the response timeline typically shorter. Task order proposals must still be compliant, compelling, and competitive.
Task order management is critical for companies on IDIQ contracts. Success requires monitoring for new task order opportunities, maintaining rapid-response proposal capabilities, and building strong relationships with ordering agencies. Many companies find that task order revenue significantly exceeds the base contract value, making post-award business development equally important as winning the initial contract.
